PED Directive

The purpose of Directive 97/23/EC is to harmonize the national legislation of the Member States concerning the assessment of the design, manufacture, testing, and conformity of pressure equipment and assemblies.

The directive applies to products such as pressure vessels, heat exchangers, steam generators, boilers, industrial piping, safety devices, and pressure accessories.

Such equipment is widely used in process industries (oil & gas, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, plastics and rubber, food, paper, etc.).

CISIA services for equipment manufacturers

• Classification of equipment according to PED risk categories
• Identification of components or equipment that fall within the scope of the directive
• Project management for equipment and assemblies: risk analysis, materials, calculations, and drawings (applying various design codes such as EN standards, VSR, VSG, ASME, etc.)
• Preparation of the technical file and instructions for use
• Assistance during prove-up / certification inspections
• Consultancy for setting up and maintaining a PED quality system
• Assessment of reliability of safety accessories / safety loops (IEC 61508, 61511)
• Training for technical staff

CISIA services for end users, employers, and installers

• Inventory (census) and assignment of PED risk category
• Definition of the type and frequency of inspections and initial installation documentation
• Preparation of the declaration of commissioning to be sent to ISPESL and the competent USL/ASL
• Documentation to be submitted to ISPESL for the registration of piping and vessels for liquids
• Updating and/or preparation of plant schematics (P&IDs / layout diagrams)
• Updating and/or preparation of the technical dossier/file
