Piping and boiler making
At the design stage, a piping system requires accurate studies which, starting from the definition of each pipe’s routing within the plant, resolve all issues related to connections, fittings, welding, supports, thrusts, and deformations, up to functional testing (hydrostatic and leak tests), painting, and insulation.
In the field of piping, the drafter and designer act as the main point of reference, as they must be familiar with all issues related to the materials that make up the piping, the minimum spaces required for installation, the most suitable fittings for the intended purpose, and how to connect any pipeline to both upstream and downstream equipment. They possess the necessary knowledge and skills to resolve problems arising from the weight, temperature, and pressure to which the pipes are subjected.
Following the correct setup of the structural schemes of a designed piping system (which is a composite assembly belonging to a specific structural range), it is possible—before completing the design—to carry out a calculation check known as stress analysis. This analysis, based on relevant input data (mechanical constraints, pressure, temperature, materials, components), makes it possible to predict the stresses acting on the piping components, thus allowing prior knowledge of the piping system’s operational safety margins (i.e., whether the piping is adequately designed to withstand the operating conditions), or conversely, whether these limits are exceeded (i.e., the piping is not suitable to withstand the conditions). As is evident, this calculation is essential before constructing the piping, especially when dangerous pressure and temperature conditions exist (particularly temperature variations, with resulting differential expansions), as well as dynamic and fatigue stresses.
CISIA, using its advanced calculation tools, provides its customers with a complete analysis of piping systems, supports, and materials.
